Newport/Bermuda

It’s off to Bermuda with Genuine Risk today. In our “Open” class of three (Genuine Risk, Speedboat, Puma) the light upwind forecast looks best for us. We are narrower by a significant amount and are happy to play the underdog against two entirely professional crews. Should be fun!

  1. Hey Amory – After the last post this is great news – that you’ll be aboard for the race. Can’t wait to see the photo/video results from you as GR’s MCM.

That last post struck a chord but also got me thinking about a few things. Check out some of the old ski and snowboard footage and the modern day equivalent – something like Brainfarm’s “That’s It, That’s All.” In both cases, past and present, film crews/photogs/videogs and athletes worked together with the primary goal being to create kick ass, action packed footage of top athletes in killer locations going for it. I’m just not seeing this coming from sailing media…at least not in anything more than a trickle.

My opinion – general public cannot relate to “watch all the white boats go around the mark” videos but I’ve been in a crowd of mixed sailors and non-sailors who were on the edges of their seats, gasping and oohing and aahhing at something like Gary Jobson’s espn compilation vids. And you’ve got a much better eye than GJ ;-) .

If you want to discuss more get in touch with me off blog.

See Ya’ (and keep up the killer work and positive mental attitude!),

    Andy
